In a Nutshell with Bill Whibley of Aventa Systems

Main Focus of the Business

We specialise in the supply and integration of production data management systems to the oil and gas industry.

What do you do now?

I’m the founder and managing director of Aventa Systems Limited. I get involved in setting company strategy, business development, finance and procurement and contractual/legal matters.

What was your very first job?

I had a Saturday job as a Milkman’s assistant. Up at 4:30am and finished by lunch time. Sometimes the weather was so cold the frozen milk and cream would push the tops off of the milk bottles! It’s not easy for a 15 year old to get up at that time of the morning.

How did you get into IT?

From about the age of 11 I’ve been interested in IT. Watching films like ‘War Games’ fascinated me and I loved the ‘anything is possible’ mentality of it all.

Interesting fact about You?

I’m a black belt in a martial art called Choi Kwang Do and I’m a panel member of the Children’s Panel for Aberdeen City.

Favourite Place?

Although I love Scotland and think it’s a beautiful place I must admit that I love visiting Orlando, Florida. The theme parks are awesome and I love roller coasters. The bigger and faster the better.

Dream Car?

I like what’s happening with the electric car movement and also the latest advancements in driverless cars therefore a Tesla Model S would be pretty cool.

Who would you most like to meet and why?

There are so many great people to choose from but I’d like to meet Nolan Bushnell. Noland founded Atari and I think he’d have really great stories of the early days of computing.

Current Aspirations for the business

Continue to develop a great reputation as a trusted partner whilst growing the company. I’d like to have more of a presence in the US and expand into other, non Oil & Gas, markets.
