Last week Company Connecting provided information on 2425 companies registered between October 2014 and June 2017. The research established that only 11% of the registered companies were ‘real’ i.e. had a web presence. Almost 30% were already dissolved or dormant, and at least 20% were companies for contractors. It was evident that the number of tech companies registered has increased significanlty since 2000, and from 2015 the number of companies has accelerated.

This week we take a look at the 280+ companies which the Company Connecting research established were actual companies.

It is  no surprise that Software Development comes top of the skills league. Software Development is the top skill across 95% of the Company Connecting infographics. The companies are considerably smaller than the average Scottish technology company: We would expect these early stage companies to be small however 94% have less than 10 employees, and just under 40% have only one employee. Government encourages and supports company formation and entrepreneurship. However perhaps it is worth taking a closer look at these small companies and consider what can they need to be able to grow.

Have a look at the infographic below for further information. It is interactive, so more facts can be viewed by hovering over the charts.
