IT Companies in the the Cambridge Area: Company Connecting Insights and Infographic 2016

We completed our research on IT companies registered in the Cambridge / ‘CB’ post code in June 2016. We have 521 companies in the area on Company Connecting. . The area around Cambridge is sometimes known as Silicon Fen because of the number of companies working in technology. Many of these companies have been helped to create and adopt innovation via the support of Cambridge University.
Our infographic below provides a pictorial view of what is going on with IT companies in the CB post code area. The majority (72%) of these companies are registered in Cambridge itself. Ely and Saffron Walden take up the 2nd and 3rd positions but are tiny in comparison.
The size of companies tends to be larger than the average on our database. Only 50% of the companies have less than 20 employees against our average on Company Connecting of 62.47%. As with all our geographical reviews, Software Development skills take the top slot – 54% of companies have these skills against our average of 35% - so clearly software development is very important to the area.
Cyber Security and Embedded Systems programing are well represented, perhaps not surprisingly given the areas tech reputation and companies like ARM, and Darktrace.
The top five sectors are Healthcare, Education, Financial Services, IT and Games, and the top five business focus areas are Digital Marketing, Games, HR Management, Online Marketing and Document Management.
