Ewan Waugh of E-wan Networks is the subject of today's nutshell. Ewan sees great opportunities in the Unified Communications Solutions market. Over the years he has amassed considerable experience in telecoms and has been involved in the deployment of the largest and most complex Skype for Business solution globally.
Main Focus of the Business
E-wan Networks offers consultancy in the deployment of enterprise Level Unified Communications Solutions.
What do you do now?
I am the owner of E-WAN Networks. I am taking my first venture into self-employment so that I can make use of the unique skills I have acquired while working in Oil and Gas telecoms for the last 12 years.
What was your very first job?
I was a telecoms graduate at Total E&P UK and worked in all aspects of telecoms. I had to work both on and offshore and this gave me a real insight into just how critical telecoms services are to large scale organisations.
How did you get into IT?
I have always focused on IT through my education. Although originally I wanted to be a Computer Programmer I was offered the opportunity to take the telecoms placement at Total and I have never looked back since.
Interesting fact about You?
I used to moonlight in an aspiring local band but have since given up all hope of making it big and settle for tinkering with the guitar in my spare room and at parties.
Favourite Place?
Anywhere sunny and hot with a beer.
Dream Car?
Aston Martin
Who would you most like to meet and why?
I have a real passion for movies so I would love to meet some of my favourite actors like Leonardo Dicaprio or Tom Hardy to talk about their careers and the movies they love. From a business perspective I would definitely want to pick the brains of an innovator like Elon Musk to find out what approach he would take to a business idea like my own.
Current Aspirations for the business
I see the Unified Communications market as a real opportunity. By this time next year I want E-wan Networks to be seen as an established provider of Unified Communications services in Aberdeen and other areas of Scotland.
