Today's nutshell is Craig Buchan, Founder and Managing Director of Qpal. Qpal brings cashless event experience to the events industry and delivers bespoke data analytics solutions.
Main Focus of the Business
Our technology solution is going to revolutionise the live events industry by bringing about a cashless event experience and delivering bespoke data analytics solutions.The business was created to address pain points that exist for both the event stakeholders and the attendees.With exponential growth and movement towards mobile payments, Qpal believes in being at the cutting edge to deliver a solution that meets the growing demand.
What do you do now?
Having launched Qpal at the start of 2016, I’ve been growing the business as Managing Director and will continue to do so as we begin to make traction in the market. Our business vision over the next 5 years is bold, ambitious, exciting and something I can’t wait to drive forward!
What was your very first job?
I plied my trade as a paperboy for 3 years before moving onto a repeated summer job as a ‘tattie roguer’ across the fields of the North East!My first job in business though was a yearlong internship with Epeus Consulting, a top learning experience and a great company to work for in the O&G sector.
How did you get into IT?
My Dad has been in IT most of his days so growing up with that influence around me certainly wore off.
I tried my hand at software development at University but it was apparent my focus needed to turn to the business side of IT, I graduated from RGU business school in 2014 with a degree in Management with Marketing.
That lifelong interest in all things tech drove me to the position I’m in today.
Interesting fact about You?
Over the years on ‘cultural’ holidays with my friends I’ve acquired somewhat questionable tattoos. Hidden away from the public eye, but questionable nonetheless!
Favourite Place?
Hands down Miami, something truly magical about that place that I can’t quite put my finger on.
Dream Car?
I’ve never been a massive petrol head, but we were recently at the BMW showcase in Munich, getting behind the wheel of an M4 Coupe in the not too distant future would keep me happy.
Who would you most like to meet and why?
I share my middle name with my Grandfather, but unfortunately he passed before I was born and I never got a chance to meet him.
On a world stage, I’d like to have a discussion with Donald Trump to cut through the media parade and find out exactly what his views/plans are should he become President. On one condition though, we converse whilst golfing on one of his courses!
Current Aspirations for the business
Qpal truly believes in revolutionising the live events industry for the better, on a UK level, and then internationally. We have the technology and passion to do so, it’s now all about building a team to execute our plans.
