Business
Initiative2 is based in Aberdeen and provides Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to national and international clients.
Main Focus of the Business
We get our clients more enquiries and more sales. We do this using the internet.
What do you do now?
Keep our clients one step ahead of all the rubbish that is spoken about online marketing.
What was your very first job?
Delicatessen assistant in a local supermarket. Learned to upsell: “That’s just over.” when weighing things out.
First proper job was as a project management consultant.
How did you get into IT?
I dropped off my CV at a recruitment company’s office. It just so happened that the agency had moved out and so the new tenant offered me a job! This was based on my CV which listed my economics degree and Mensa membership. PCs and spreadsheets were just beginning to appear so they gave me the position based on my degree and what they saw. Who needs experience!
Interesting fact about You?
Won the UK essay writing competition in 1974. It was a fictional encounter with the Loch Ness Monster. The prize was £25 of goods of my choosing. £25 was a lot of money back then. I chose a pair of binoculars (which I still have) and a transistor radio. There was no big presentation – it was all done by post. I suspect it would be very different now!
Favourite Place?
Villefranche on the French Riviera. It was the first destination on my first cruise. I’ll always remember opening the curtains that morning. Beautiful.
Dream Car?
My dream car was a turquoise Mini Metro. I was into horse-riding at the time, and everyone else had a Land Rover Discovery or Range Rover. My car was easy to find in the car park.
Who would you most like to meet and why?
My Granny. She was a wonderful woman, and I have so many things I would like to ask her. She wasn’t a great one for handing out advice. She was clever, practical and pragmatic and encouraged you to work things out for yourself. Such an environment has provided me with a legacy that has formed the basis of my business life.
Current Aspirations for the business
Continue to grow, by helping our clients to grow.
