In a Nutshell with Marc Christensen of Blacksnow Analytics
Main Focus of the Business
The primary focus of the business is to help organisations get better insight from business data. This in turn will allow companies to make those critical decisions to drive their business forward. It’s all about empowering the client, as that provides real value.
What do you do now?
I head up our Sales and Commercial functions within the business. My remit is to grow the Blacksnow Analytics brand whilst growing our client base. This includes travelling to client sites, attending conferences and really making people aware of who Blacksnow Analytics are
What was your very first job?
My very first job was working in a supermarket back in South Africa whilst I was at school. I used to go in one night a week and one night on the weekends to replenish the stock on the shelves.
How did you get into IT?
When I arrived in Scotland as fresh faced 23 year old, I managed a pub. After nearly a year I was keen to start focusing on the type of career I wanted. Having always been interested in Commercial Business I was keen to get involved within the IT space. I applied for a telesales role with HP and ended staying there for a number of years. It was during this period that I really got to understand the value of technologies and infrastructure. That was my first real start in the IT world.
Interesting fact about You?
I was the first male student at my high school to win the Practical Home Economics award. I made a Beef & Pineapple Stew – it started out as a curry but ended up winning the award. My prize was a food blender.
Back home, sitting on the beach in Durban with all my family
Who would you most like to meet and why?
Joost van der Westhuizen – he is a former South African rugby player who has been fighting Motor Neurone Disease for a few years now. He was a leading player for the Springboks, a player I looked up to, and would really like to thank, for all he did for South African rugby. He is a great role model for past and future generations in South Africa.
Current Aspirations for the business
Ideally we would be looking to grow the business to around 8-10 staff in the next 12-18 months. Our goal is to become a leader in the Analytics world both here in Scotland and across the UK. Of course the dream would be to become a world player but there is much work to be done to achieve that.
